Three Benefits Of Oatmeal

As you strive to make sure you are treating your body right, you will get to a point where you are no longer looking at foods simply from the standpoint of how they taste, but also from the standpoint of how they make your body feel, and how good they are for your body! Oatmeal is one of the foods that you tend to hear about frequently when it comes to "foods that are good for you" – and in addition to all the benefits of oatmeal, it can also be a delicious way to start out your day, as long as you make it the right way.

A lot of people use coffee or energy drinks in order to help their mind and body wake up at the start of the day, but it is much better for your body when you indulge in foods that give you natural energy; oat-based foods are some of the best things you can find for gaining natural energy, and there is no better “oat-based food” than oatmeal itself!

Your body has both good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, and while you certainly want to boost your body’s good cholesterol, keeping the bad cholesterol under control will also be important, as bad cholesterol can clog your arteries and put unnecessary strain on your heart – and with a bowl of oatmeal at the start of each morning, it will be much easier for you to keep your bad cholesterol under control.

And of course, oatmeal is not very expensive at all; with oatmeal, you will be able to enjoy a healthy breakfast every morning without spending more than a couple dollars – and in the long run, the health benefits of oatmeal will help you save even more money than this!

There are very few that can match oatmeal when you are looking for foods that are tasty, healthy, and inexpensive, and once you begin to incorporate this as part of your daily routine, you will certainly see tremendous results!

Staying Awake Without Coffee

Mind is All
Although there are studies that tell you that coffee is not good for you to consume on a regular basis, the majority of studies these days will tell you that coffee - as long as it is not consumed in excess, and as long as it is not relied upon for energy - is perfectly fine for you to consume; at the same time, however, many people do consume coffee in excess, or do rely on it for energy, and if you fall into either of these categories, here are a few things you can consider doing in order to stay awake without coffee.

If you have tried to simply "get more sleep" in order to skip the coffee and still stay awake, you have probably found that this is not a solution; one solution that does work for most people, however, is replacing coffee with tea - and while tea does have caffeine in it, the caffeine content is lower, which will give you a hot, tasty drink that will not cause you to be quite so reliant upon it.

Believe it or not, you can actually get just as big of a shot of energy as you would get from a cup of coffee by eating an apple, and apples are not the only fruits that are good for giving you energy; consider adding an apple or two - or a couple oranges, or a couple servings of berries - to your daily eating plan, and watch as your energy begins to climb.

And for those who love chocolate, realize that dark chocolate is a great way to keep yourself awake, as cocoa has a number of properties that help to boost energy; when you go for chocolate, however, make sure you are going for dark chocolate that has at least 70% cocoa, as this will keep you from experiencing sugar crashes as well.

Not every person who drinks coffee on a regular basis needs to figure out a way to kick this habit - but if you drink coffee to excess, or if you depend on coffee for energy, try these three ideas, and watch as coffee no longer becomes a crutch that gets you going in your day.

Tips For Safe Rock Climbing

When you go rock climbing, you can get some sun on your body and can also stay in shape with a full-body workout at the same time. But if you do not take the proper safety precautions when it comes to rock climbing, it can also be an easy way to get injured! Follow these tips to make sure you are taking proper safety precautions when rock climbing, and you can get that great workout without the risk of injury!

Doing your rock climbing at an indoor rock climbing gym is a great way to make sure you stay safe while climbing. Although you will not get sun on your body while climbing indoors, these plaes do provide you with plenty of safety measures that are designed to make sure their patrons do not get hurt.

If you prefer to climb outdoors, however, you can still remain safe; you simply have to know what you are doing. If you want to remain safe while climbing, you need to make sure you always go with a partner - someone who can both spot you and help you find hand holds and foot holds. This person can ease your fall if you do slip off the rock, and they can let you know if you would be better off abandoning a route.

You should never climb without a crash pad, either, as a crash pad will give you a soft and safe landing space. A crash pad is no replacement for a spotter, however; remember, when you go climbing, you should always have a spotter as well as a crash pad!

You are fine to free climb on a wall up to ten or fifteen feet high, but you should top climb on anything that is higher than this. This will keep you safe if your hands ever slip off the rock, as you will be strapped to a rope the whole time.

Finally, you can lessen your chances of getting hurt if you make sure you have the right equipment for climbing. Make sure you purchase some good climbing shoes, wear good climbing clothes, and bring climbing chalk; in this way, you can have a lot of fun conquering any route without exposing yourself to unnecesary risk!

Tips For Stretching Properly Before Playing Sports

When you are playing sports and you pull a muscle, this can be one of the most frustrating things that can happen, as it can not only take you out of the game itself, but can also put you in a lot of pain for several weeks to come; especially as you get older and the sports you participate in are more “recreational,” it can be easy to forget about stretching, and stretching for a sport that you do not take all that seriously can seem a bit silly. But even though stretching before you play a sport that is not all that competitive might seem a bit silly, it is much worse to pull a muscle while playing a sport that is not all that competitive – so take the time to understand how to stretch properly so that you will not have to deal with this issue!

Stretch your lower legs before you stretch anything else – that is, your calves and your ankles; a few great stretches for these muscles are to stand on the back of your foot with the front of the other foot, pushing down until you feel the tendons at the back of your ankle stretching out, and also, to lean forward and push against the wall with your legs stretched out behind you, so that you feel your calf muscles stretching.

When you are stretching, it will also be very important that you pay attention to your hamstrings, as these are some of the muscles that are most likely to get injured; a couple great ways to stretch out your hamstrings are to hang down with your upper body and try to touch your toes, and to sit on the ground with your legs spread out as you lean down and try to touch your toes this way.

And when it comes to sports, many people completely forget about the importance of stretching their upper body as well; make sure you do a few simple upper body stretches before you engage in any sport – even a sport where you will not be using your upper body – as this will help you to limber up and to avoid the risk of injury.

Do Your Sensitive Teeth Cause You Problems?

Mind is All
If you suffer from sensitive teeth, you know that this can be a very painful problem. If your teeth are painful, you should see a dentist to determine why you are suffering. Unfortunately, there are a number of reasons that tooth sensitivity can occur. Weak enamel is sometimes caused by genetics.  This can be a factor in sensitivity. Sensitive teeth an also be caused by gum recession.  When your gums recede it exposes the soft dentin of the root on your tooth.  Ouch! Age can also be a factor in tooth sensitivity along with cavities.

You may be told to use sensitive specific toothpaste such as Sensodyne Toothpaste, or Pronamel Sensitive. These toothpastes block the little tubes that are in your teeth naturally. You will need to continue using these toothpastes for as long as you don't want sensitivity. Whitening toothpastes and hydrogen peroxide whitening can increase tooth sensitivity so please avoid these.

When choosing a toothbrush make sure to choose a soft or ultra soft bristle toothbrush. If you brush your teeth with medium and hard bristle brushes you run the risk of wearing down the gums.  This ultimately exposes the root dentin. The Enamel of our teeth is very hard, dentin on the other hand is soft in comparison. Brushing dentin too hard, can wear it down over time causing sensitivity.

Proper brushing can help to decrease the likelihood of tooth sensitivity. Make sure to brush your teeth with the bristles of the brush at a 45-degree angle to the teeth. Stop using back and forth motions; instead use small circular motions. This reduces wear on any exposed dentin. Electric toothbrushes can be a great option for you.

Always avoid mouthwashes with high alcohol. Alcohol in mouthwash dries out your mouth and can damage soft tissues over time.  Flossing is very important to the health of your teeth and gums. When it comes to flossing, just do it.  It doesn't matter if you used waxed or unwaxed floss.

Dentist must see a patient that has sensitive teeth.  It is very important to your teeth and gums to determine what may be going on. Although a toothpaste change may help, you should still get checked out to make sure you don't have a larger problem beginning.

How To Get Vitamin D From The Sun

The word "vitamin" automatically notifies you that something that is important for your body is about to be talked about! But one of the most important vitamins to make sure you get enough of is vitamin D, whose health effects include bone health, health in your immune system, and even prevention of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. And while you can eat certain foods or take certain supplements to get vitamin D, the best way to get it is to spend time in the sun; this is because the sun's rays enable your body to produce vitamin D on its own. But as much as most of us enjoy the sun - and as important as we might realize vitamin D is - it can still be difficult to get out in the sun every day.

Work is one of the biggest reasons why many people are unable to get the twenty minutes of sun each day that they should aim to get. With work, most people only have the weekends remaining in order to get vitamin D, and this is not enough time!

During the summer, you will usually find that it is still light enough outside for you to get some sun, which you can do by taking a nice walk in the evening when you get home from work. You can also go for a jog in the evening when you get home from work, as this will get you out in the sun as well.

During the day, you can also go for a walk - during lunch, or even during a short break; in fact, these short breaks can be good for work as well! As you walk around, you will not only be getting vitamin D, but you will also be collecting your thoughts.

Eating your lunch outside is probably the most relaxing way to get vitamin D from the sun. It is healthier for your body if you pack a lunch, and if you do so, it will give you plenty of time during which you can find a nice, grassy area in which to enjoy your meal.

Your body will be healthier when you get a bit of sun each day; but also, you will feel a whole lot better!

Stay Fit With Indoor Rock Climbing

Mind is All
Although there is no shortage of options for staying healthy and fit, it sometimes seems as though there is a shortage of options that are also not dull! After all, you can only walk around your neighborhood or run on a treadmill so many times before you need to start looking for something new. One of the best ways to keep your body in shape is by rock climbing, and rock climbing has never been safer or easier than it is now that indoor rock climbing facilities are gaining prevalence.

image

Because of the way in which rock climbing causes you to use your entire upper body as well as your legs, it is one of the best full-body workouts in which you can engage. And although rock climbing can be dangerous when done outdoors - esepcially when done without a harness or any serious padding beneath you - it can be a very safe activity at indoor rock climbing gyms.

Most rock climbing gyms require you to take a "top rope" course that helps you understand how to belay (which means, quite simply, to add friction to the rope your climbing parter is using so they will not fall far if their hands or feet slip) for your partner. Like a gym, you can usually pay a small monthly fee for a membership to an indoor climbing facility, after which you can climb anytime you want, which makes indoor climbing relatively inexpensive.

If you begin to climb regularly, you will also want to invest in some good climbing shoes and a chalk pouch. You can find good climbing shoes for a very reasonable price on Amazon, and you can also find chalk pouches for as little as $10. Clothes for rock climbing can probably be found in your closet as well - all you really need are some sturdy pants or shorts and an old shirt!

Once you get the hang of rock climbing, it can be as easy or as challenging as you choose for it to be! And best of all, indoor rock climbing gives you a true full-body workout that is fun and adventurous without being dangerous at all!

Increase Your Health By Walking

You need to keep your body's cardiovascular system in good shape if you want to keep your body healthy. Walking is one of the easiest and most effective of all the ways you can go about trying to do this. Because walking is a low-impact workout, you will not deal with sore feet and joints like other workouts can give you. As far as exercise goes, walking can be very effective if it is done regularly. However - believe it or not - there are actually right and wrong ways of walking! This guide can help you to make sure you are walking in a way that is beneficial to your body.

Because many people know that walking is an effective and easy way to keep their body in shape, they try to take the time to add some walking into their schedule. A lot of times, however, these same people fail to realize that it is important to have the right equipment for walking. It is not actually the case that you can just throw on any old clothes and shoes and have it be good for walking. If you want to keep your back and feet from hurting, you need to make sure that you are wearing shoes that are designed to be good for walking. You must also make sure you are wearing breathable materials. This is particularly true for those summertime walks, when your body will need to be able to sweat.

Walking consistently is another important aspect of walking effectively. After all, you will find that it is not very effective if you only walk once or twice per month. Furthermore, if you walk every day for a week and then don't walk for the next two weeks, this will not help you much either. You need to walk at least three or four days per week in order for walking to work.

Finally, walking requires you to put in a little more time than some other workouts. You should try to walk for at least thirty minutes every time you go out, which is longer than you might need for a more intense form of exercise. This will help your body get up to the level where walking is truly making a difference.

Walking is perhaps the easiest and most relaxing form of working out. As long as you have the right clothes, stick with it consistently, and walk for a long enough time when you do it, you will find that it makes a big difference in your health.

Healthy Alternatives To Your Favorite Junk Food

Mind is All
It can be difficult to eat healthy sometimes, especially when there are certain food that you absolutely love eating all the time! But if you are trying to improve the health of your lifestyle, one of the best ways to do this is by improving the foods you are eating. And you can actully find that a lot of great alternatives exist when it comes to cutting junk food out of your diet.

Lots of people start out their day the wrong way in the morning, packing it full of sugar with doughnuts or pastries or something similar. Of course, it is best to start your day off with an apple or with a couple eggs, but there are other options as well! For instance, one way to replace the pastry - if you do not want to replace it with fruit - is to switch to a bagel or a muffin with fruit in it.

The next area where people often end up eating foods that are not good for their body at all is around mid-morning when they grab a snack. People often hit the vending machines and buy some chips or some candy, but instead, you should consider bringing a snack with you to work. A few things that are great to bring with you are fruit bars, granola bars, and protein bars; all three are delicious and sweet, and area also healthy!

image

There are a couple different options to try for the person who usually enjoys having dessert after their evening meal. Firstly, you can replace your dessert with healthier alternatives, such as sweet, healthy treats like watermelon, strawberries, or a bowl of mixed berries. Or, if your sweet tooth requires you to indulge every once in a while, cut in half the number of nights on which you will eat dessert each week!

When you eat healthy, you will find that you have a lot more energy, and that your body will feel stronger and more awake. And not only that, but in the long run, you will find that you will be less susceptible to disease, and your body will feel a whole lot better!

Looking For Nighttime Rituals To Help You Sleep

If you've ever had trouble sleeping, you know how frustrating this can be; after all, while it might be nice for a little while (it sure does give you a lot more time to work with!), your body will simply continue to get more and more tired, and this starts to become worse and worse if you are unable to sleep. While there are plenty of different reasons why people might have a hard time sleeping, and while the solutions might be different for each different person, one common cause of having a hard time sleeping is simply being too “wound up,” and you can solve this problem by finding a ritual that helps you relax before you go to bed.

While some people think of caffeine when they think of tea, there are many non-caffeinated teas as well; drinking something hot and tasty is often a great way to relax and unwind, so find a flavor of tea that you enjoy, and see if this helps you get to sleep any better.

Taking a long, relaxing, hot shower is another great way to unwind your mind and your body; even if you usually shower in the morning, you might consider adding an extra shower at night, as this might be just the key you need in order to have an easier time falling asleep at night.

And a lot of people find that, at night, reading helps them to relax and unwind; of course, if you are truly an avid reader (and if the book you are reading is really good), reading might have the opposite effect – waking you up instead of helping you fall asleep – but some people find that reading helps them transition into sleep, and it is certainly worth testing this out for yourself to see if it works.

If you have been having trouble sleeping, keep these tips in mind – and you will be able to try different things until you find something that works great for you!

Taking A Look At Ways To Improve Your Life

Mind is All
As you make your way through life, one thing that you should turn your focus toward is the things you can do to improve your life; after all, for the most part, life does not happen by accident - but when you look for ways to improve your life (instead of just allowing life to come at you, and waiting to see what will happen), you will find that your life keeps getting better, and that it is a whole lot more fun to live!

One of the best ways to improve your life is by improving your health, as health problems are one of the main things that can drag you down and make your life feel more difficult than it needs to be; in order to improve your health, you need to take the time to get an education, recognizing that you should do things in life intentionally, and finding out what foods you should be putting in your body, how much rest you should be giving yourself, and how you should be working out and staying in shape, as a little bit of study can go a long way in improving your overall health and lifestyle.

Your personal life is another area where it is important that you improve your life in order to get the most out of it; if you want to improve your personal life, the best thing you can do is define exactly what it is that is important to you in your personal life, and then (it's really so simple!), you need to make the time or these things that are important to you - being stringent about cutting out all those other things in your life that are really just a waste of time.

And the best thing you can do in order to improve your future is have clear goals, write these goals down, and read through them every day. You will be putting your mind in a place where it is constantly moving you toward these goals when you arrange them and keep up with them like this - and as time passes, you will keep moving toward these goals until those dreams you had for your future have suddenly become part of your present!

Yoga

Long ago in India, Hinduism and Buddhism had a physical practice of well-being and spiritual commitment called yoga.  Today, two types of this traditional practice exist that have been tailored to fit the modern world. These new practices are called Ashtanga and Anusara. Ashtanga

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915 – 2009) brought Ashtanga yoga to the western world.

The purpose of Ashtanga is to create sweat that purifies the body, which is provided by internal heat.

This is accomplished through a series of yoga poses paired with breathing exercises to promote a strong body and calm mind.

The meaning of Ashtanga is “eight-limbed yoga”.

The eight limbs are a series of principles spoken about in the Yoga Sutras.

These limbs consist of moral-codes, self-purification and study, posture, breath control, sense control, concentration, meditation, and absorption into the universe.

Ashtanga's goal is to accomplish all of these principles.

Anusara

Anusara is a new form of yoga – it began in 1997 by a man named John Friend.

Aligning with the Divine,” was Friend's purpose, according to the official Anusara website.

When many people consider yoga, they thing of people chanting “Om”; this is Anusara.

Empowerment of the individual and a meditative state are two things that create Divine alignment.

Yoga for you

The decision between Ashtanga and Anusara can be challenging, but consideration of your personal philosophies in contrast to the two practices is important.

If you are a more structured person who enjoys athletics, then Ashtanga is for you.

It will get you onto the path to becoming a better person while simultaneously giving you a great workout.

Anusara is more suitable for those who are a little looser with their philosophies.

The goal is different than in Ashtanga, but the workout is very similar.

Anusara wants people to feel good about themselves and the world around them. This goodness will aid in connection with the Divine.

Either way you decide to practice yoga, you'll need a Yoga Mat!

Tips For Stopping A Flesh Wound From Bleeding

Mind is All
Even though people tend to not think about things such as "how to stop a flesh wound from bleeding" until they end up in a situation where this information is crucial, you never know when this information will come in handy, and it is certainly better to know what to do before the situation arises than to scramble once you are in the situation! Especially if you have children, it is important that you know how to stop a flesh wound from bleeding in order to prevent infection and scarring.

Before you do anything at all with an open wound, you should make sure your hands are clean, as you will be working with your hands and will not want to get dirt or germs into the open cut. The main thing you need to do after you have washed your hands is to stop the bleeding; use sterile gauze (or something similar) to stopper the wound, and then keep pressure applied to the wound while also keeping the area of the wound raised so that it is held above the level of the heart.

You can apply an ice pack to the area if the bleeding persists, as this should slow the bleeding further; it can take up to ten or fifteen minutes for the bleeding to stop completely, so be patient - as long as the situation is continuing to improve, you have no reason to be worried!

Once the bleeding stops completely (or close to completely), you should clean out the cut with antibacterial soap, and then you should apply an antibacterial cream to a bandage and apply the bandage to the wound.

By taking these easy steps, you should not have any problems solving most flesh wounds, but if you have followed these steps and the situation has not improved, you can deem it to be a medical emergency, and you should immediately get in touch with an emergency medical technician to assist you.

How To Get Your Body Used To A New Schedule

There are many reasons why you could end up having to switch to a new schedule – ranging from a new job to a new lifestyle to new responsibilities – but regardless of the reason why you are having to switch to a new schedule, it will still be important that you are able to switch to this schedule in a healthy and proper manner! While the process for switching from one schedule to another will differ slightly from person to person, there are still a few specific things you can (and should!) do in order to make the transition go smoothly for you.

First of all, you need to create and stick to a definite direction as far as your new schedule goes; this means that you cannot simply decide a general time around which you want to go to sleep and wake up, but that you instead need to have some specifics set in place as far as how long it will take you to get ready for your day and how long it will take you to fall asleep, and how much sleep you think you will need!

The second thing you will need to do - once the specifics of this new schedule are in place - is that you will need to make sure you actually wake up at the time you have designated; this can be one of the toughest parts when you are switching to a new schedule, but it is also vital, as your new schedule will not work if you are not consistently waking up at the same time each morning.

Finally, the last step to getting on a new schedule will be making sure you listen to your body; once you have gotten your body used to waking up at a specific, designated time, you will be able to listen to your body to know exactly when you should go to sleep.

If you simply follow these tips and suggestions, you will have a much smoother transition to a new schedule, as you will be able to quickly acclimate and adjust without forcing yourself through a long transition period!

Tips For Better Freestyle Swim Workouts

Mind is All
image

If you’re a swimmer and want to get the best times and the best workouts, you’ll want to try these swim workout tips.

For an all-body workout that will improve your times, do more than just the freestyle stroke during your workout. You'll benefit from doing some breaststroke, a lot of freestyle, some kickboarding, and using a few props. Begin your practice with freestyle laps, being sure to always reach forward, extending as far as possible with each stroke, and letting the stroke glide in front of you before pulling down. Make each pull through the water strong and powerful, being sure to push the water behind you, not out to the sides or across your body. Kick from the hip, keeping your legs mostly straight, with only a slight bend to your knees. Don't fight the water; glide upon the surface. Remind yourself that strong, smooth strokes will win the race.

Use paddles to add resistance and build muscles, trying to get across the pool with as few breaths as possible. Then switch it up by taking off the paddles and swimming a couple lengths with your hands clenched into fists. Then, resume your normal freestyle stroke, noting how different it feels. You’ll be much more aware of the power of your hands and will find you’re much faster.

When you’ve worn out your shoulders (always be careful to avoid injury), make sure to invest some time using the kickboard. Rest your upper body (it may feel good to stretch your arms out over the board) and kick, propelling yourself forward with long, deep, straight-legged kicks. Extend each kick deep into the water, challenging yourself to use all the muscles you can. Practice on the kickboard until you feel the burn. Switch to a breaststroke kick for a couple lengths, working the outer and inner thigh muscles and giving your quads, hamstrings, and gluts a break.

Complete your workout with a last set of freestyle laps, just you, no props. Focus on perfecting every stroke.

Know How Much Caffeine Is In Your Favorite Drinks

You might find that you benefit from knowing the caffeine content of the drinks you are drinking, especially if you have ever been affected by coffee - either to a greater or lesser extent - than you expected to be.

For many Americans, Starbucks is the coffee destination of choice. The Frappuccino is one of the most popular of all of their specialty drinks. This blended "coffee" drink is especially popular during the hot summer months, but did you know that it actually contains no caffeine at all? In fact, the Frappuccino contains no real coffee - it is powder-based and coffee-flavored! If you are wanting something to wake you up during the summer instead of just a cold drink, think twice before purchasing a Frappuccino.

Another source of confusion regarding caffeine content comes from espresso. In fact, regular consumers are not the only ones confused by espresso; it is not unusual to find a barista making a comment about how you must really need to stay awake if you ever order an espresso-based drink and request an extra shot. Actually, while espresso contains more caffeine per ounce than regular coffee, most espresso drinks only contain a couple ounces of espresso. One example is a venti latte at Starbucks - the largest size offered - which only comes with three shots (or ounces) of espresso. As a shot of espresso typically contains between 35 and 50 milligrams of caffeine, this amounts to between 105 and 150 milligrams of caffeine.

On the other hand, you get between 115 and 150 milligrams of caffeine from a single cup. This means that the 20 ounces of coffee in a Starbucks venti coffee gives you over 300 milligrams of caffeine! In other words, a venti coffee actually contains more than double what you will find in a venti espresso drink!

As surprising as it sounds, those who are sensitive to caffeine would be better off order espresso-based drinks than plain coffees. You just need to know how many shots are in a drink, and you can be aware of how much caffeine you are consuming. On the other hand, if you are wondering why caffeine is not making a big difference for you, you might be getting a lot less caffeine than you actually thought!

Five Tricks For Eating Fewer Calories

Mind is All
Have you committed yourself to a weight loss plan? Are you having trouble defeating your bad eating habits? You can use these tips to reduce your caloric intake without feeling too much pain.

Buy smaller plates. If you serve meals on big plates, use plates that have a wide decorative brim so you'll only put food in the smaller inner part of the plate. The trick here is to make your serving size look bigger than it is, which will help you serve yourself and eat less. Use this same trick for bowls and dessert dishes. Serve treats in fun, tiny dessert bowls that will make desserts look more indulgent and bigger than they are.

Use tall, slim glasses for drinks. The height of the glass will trick your eye into thinking you have more than you do. Make your low calorie beverage feel like a treat by adding a fun garnish such as a cherry, pineapple wedge, or slice of cucumber.

Eat only at the table. Make yourself set the table and sit down every time you eat and you’ll cut calories without realizing it. Much of our excessive calorie intake happens while standing and eating out of the box (or bag), eating in front of the television, or eating while on the computer.

Squeeze vegetables into recipes every chance you get. Because vegetables are usually high fiber and low calorie, you can lower the caloric impact of a calorie-dense meal simply by slipping in a few veggies. For example, try spinach and mushrooms in an Itallian pasta dish, or snow peas or asparagus in hot dishes. Every time you can replace a high-calorie ingredient with a fresh vegetable, you’re reducing the caloric intake of that dish while increasing your fiber and nutrition.

Help yourself develop a disliking for unhealthy foods. If you’re tempted to eat McDonalds, watch “Supersize Me” and allow yourself to get disgusted. Do you have a weakness for sausages or hot dogs? Once you learn what those are made from, you may be able to resist them. Fill your mind with positive thoughts about healthy foods and negative thoughts about unhealthy food.

These guidelines can empower you to eat fewer calories and live more healthfully.

Keeping Your Mouth Healthy

Most people do a fairly good job of making sure they are staying healthy, but one thing they forget to think about as often as they should is the fact that keeping their mouth healthy is as important as keeping any other part of their body healthy - and on top of that, keeping a mouth healthy is even easier than keeping a body healthy, as long as you know what to do, and as long as you stick to what you should do!

The foundation of keeping your mouth healthy will be that you brush your teeth after every meal (not just at the beginning and end of each day!); when food sits on your teeth for long periods of time, it does damage to your teeth, but by brushing after each meal, you will be able to get rid of this food long before it has a chance to hurt your teeth in any way.

Some people feel that it is immeasurably difficult to start flossing, as it seems like an uncomfortable and - quite frankly - unnecessary thing to do, but you should also realize how important flossing is if you want to keep your mouth as healthy as it should be; in the same way that you will want to brush your teeth frequently to keep food from sitting on your teeth, you will want to floss at least twice each day, as this will keep the food that lodges itself between your teeth from sitting there against your gums and between your teeth for long periods of time.

And of course, if you want to keep a healthy mouth, you will want to do all the "extra" things as well, making sure you are using mouthwash to kill the germs that can damage your mouth, and using a tongue scraper to get rid of all the excess stuff that sits on your tongue.

When you take the time to do all these things - and when you also watch what you are eating, and avoid putting too much sugar an other harmful foods into your mouth - you will be able to ensure that you have fresh breath and (more importantly!) a healthy mouth, one that will remain healthy for years and years to come.

Easy, Effective Stretching Exercises

Mind is All
Many people fail to realize that part of the reason why they wake up tired and groggy and ineffective each day is because of something that is really quite easy to fix. These people can start to solve their issues if they begin to stretch just a little bit each day! There is a widespread misconception that stretching is only necessary if you are about to exercise, or if you just finished exercising. But actually, stretching is important for every person, no matter what that person does in the course of a normal day. When you stretch, it helps your body stay looser, it helps you breathe better, and it helps your body circulate blood more effectively; all in all, stretching makes you a whole lot healthier!

You might think that stretching will take up too much of your time, or that it is impossible for you to stretch throughout the day. But the truth is, there are many stretches you can do quite easily, and you can do them in as little as ten or fifteen minutes each day.

If you are looking for an upper body stretch that is easy to do, and that you can do no matter where you are, try stretching your arms straight back behind you, about level with your shoulders; then, with your legs about shoulder-width apart, bend straight forward so that your torso is parallel over the ground. With this stretch, your arms, chest, and abdomen will all be significantly loosened.

If you wear office clothes during the day, leg stretches can be more difficult to fit in throughout the day, as the clothes can restrict you. Toe touches and butterfiles are great stretching exercises for your legs, as are lunges; you should try to do these either in the morning before you get dressed, or in the evening before you go to bed!

Your body will begin to improve remarkably when you get in the habit of stretching for ten or fifteen minutes each day.

How To Prevent Ticks While Hiking

Of course, there are not many bugs that you would especially choose to have crawling around on your body, but out of all the bugs out there, ticks are some of the worst! After all, not only do ticks crawl on your body - they also try to make your body their new home! They live off of your blood, and they can be nearly impossible to get rid of once they have made a home! After all, even after you pluck a tick off your body, it will continue to harm you - and you can only kill them by burning them or drowning them. Because of all these things, the best way to keep ticks from making your body their home is to keep them off your body altogether.

Of course, if you are not the outdoorsy type - and if you do not have pets - you should not have much to worry about when it comes to ticks. If, on the other hand, you enjoy hiking and camping, you should follow these tips, and it will not be as difficult to keep them off as it normally would be.

Firstly, you need to know that the two places where you are most likely to get ticks from is from trees and tall grass. If you are hiking or camping, you cannot exactly avoid trees - but if you avoid tall grass as best as possible, you can cut your exposure to ticks in half.

You should also try to always wear pants and long sleeves, and if you get some "performance apparel," you will be able to wear these without it being too hot. At the very least, you should keep the lower half of your body protected by making sure you wear pants.

There are also bug sprays, such as Sawyer Maxi Deet Insect Repellent, that repel ticks in addition to mosquitos, gnats, chiggers, and fleas. You will be in much better shape to keep ticks away when you spray this onto your exposed skin before traveling into the great outdoors.

Of course, you should be fine as long as you have followed these tips - but all the same, you should always give your body a thorough check whenever you return home.

Tips for Healthy Skin

Mind is All
Most women are concerned about the health of their skin. They are happy to apply a ton of different chemicals to peal, moisturize, and shrink pores. Which is fine and good, except most women miss the tips that can get their skin going in a healthy direction. By following these tips you can really increase the glow and health of your skin.

Drinking more water is one of the easiest things to do. This may come as a shock but one of the best things you can do for your skin is make sure you are hydrated. Carry a water bottle around with you. There are some arguements on how much water you should be drinking. Some recommend eight glasses a day while others use a formula where you take you weight divided by 2, and that is how many ounces (for example 150 / 2 = 75 ounces). No matter which you follow the point is to drink lots of it. If your skin stays hydrated from the inside you skin will look considerably more healthy on the outside.

Another great tip for your skin is to wear a good 30 SPF sunscreen. The days of a “healthy tan” are quickly coming to an end as more and more data shows that the sun damages your skin and causes premature aging. The key to dealing with this is to apply a good sunscreen preferably with an SPF of at least 15. Furthermore you also reduce the chance of melanoma, which can not only make your skin less the lovely but it can also kill you.

The third tip is eating correctly. More research is being done about this all of the time. The mainstream is starting to get introduced to this data in books like Feed Your Skin Starve Your Wrinkles . By eating foods high in natural oils such as nuts, and antioxidant rich foods such as fruits and vegetables you ultimately slow down the aging in your body and this clearly includes your skin.

So don’t toss out all of your skin care routine, but keep in mind that you need to start from the base to truly get healthy skin. None of these tips are hard to include into your routine.

Exploring The Health Benefits Of Honey

The knowledge most people have of honey extends about as far as "I don't know, it tastes really good," but what they fail to realize is that the great taste of honey is just the start of the benefits it has to offer! One of the biggest mistakes people make in regards to honey is assuming it is unhealthy (a misconception that has likely come about due to the fact that honey is sweet and it tastes good), but honey - unless taken in huge quantities - is not unhealthy at all, and in fact has three specific areas in which it is great for the body.

Firstly, honey is a great energy booster; unlike energy boosters that function primarily because of caffeine or sugar, honey provides long-term energy, as it gives the body glucose that kicks in for immediate energy and also gives the body fructose that gives the body sustained energy. In fact, many athletes have even taken to adding honey as part of their workout, or as part of their regimen during competition, because honey is able to give the body that push it needs in order to go the extra mile.

Secondly, honey is a tremendous antioxidant, which means that it helps to build up the immune system, and as it has anti-bacterial properties that can help improve the body's digestive system while helping you stay healthy and fight off diseases.

Pick up a 4 pack of Ambrosia Pure Honey from the Western Slope of Colorado.

And thirdly, of course, you will be able to use honey to get rid of plenty of ailments or illnesses if they do come, as the ingestion of honey can help with everything from sore throats to arthritis pain to hangovers - and honey can even be used as an antibacterial agent in dressing cuts and wounds!

Unlike many substances that are "great to add to one's diet," but are also difficult to add because of the expense involved, the obscurity of the product, or the poor taste it gives to your food, honey is inexpensive, easy to find, and delicious - and if you simply add honey to your regular diet, you will reap a great number of rewards.

Skin Care Advice for Mature Women

Mind is All
image

Have you suddenly recognized a difference in your skin?

As you age, you’ll notice a few distinct changes in your skin. Crows feet, brow lines, sun spots... the changes can be alarming, but they are common to all older women. You may also notice your skin becomes thinner, and less elastic. Don't get upset; be proactive and establish a new skin care routine perfect for aging skin.

Be sure to wash morning and night with a very mild cleanser such as Cetaphil (or the generic formula of). Many mature women develop adult-onset acne, but you'll want to avoid the acne creams and washes sold to teens (such as Proactive). Instead go for a gentler system, such as Dermalogica, which is all-natural and is better tolerated by more mature skin. Make sure to always, always, always use SPF 30 sunblock, and to freshly put on more before going out in the sun.

Skip tanning altogether. Yes, you are going to the Caribbean; we understand. Be the palest person on the beach; you’ll also be the person with the fewest wrinkles when you return to that beach in ten years. It's smart to invest in a cute beach hat, don your huge sunglasses (even more protection), and chase the shade.

If you see sun damage or scarring on your face, try using Dermalogica's Multi Vitamin Power capsules to repair some of the damage. When you crack open the little capsule, you'll discover a wonderful mixture of vitamins C, A, and E, which feels amazing on your face. You’ll notice a difference right away, and after a couple weeks of regular use, you’ll notice reversal of aging and sun damage.

If you're concerned about laugh lines, try iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex, which will plump up skin and reduce fine lines. Remember, these expensive products are meant to be used sparingly, so dab carefully and enjoy beautiful skin!

Looking At Healthy Ways To Get Skinny!

Being skinny is a desire of a lot of people, but one problem many of these people face is that they do not have the proper education or understanding to know how to lose weight in a healthy manner; while there will be times when you will still be able to lose weight, in spite of taking an unhealthy approach, there will be other times when you will not only be unhealthy by taking these wrong approaches, but will fail to lose weight as well!

When it comes to losing weight, the most important thing will be eating properly; this does not necessarily mean eating foods that call themselves "low fat", as there are many fats that are good for your body (and that help your body to burn fat!), but more so, it means eating the "right foods," and eating the right way - consuming several small meals each day, instead of eating a few big meals.

Another misconception that causes many people to fail in their efforts to lose weight as well (or in as healthy a manner) as they would like comes in the area of "exercise"; it is nearly impossible to lose weight in a healthy manner if you are not staying active, but you also need to realize that you can overdo it with your workouts - and if you are working out too much and pushing your body too hard, you will not only make your body more susceptible to disease and discomfort, but will also increase the cravings your body has for that sugar you will want so desperately to avoid.

And if you hope to lose some weight, it will be absolutely vital that you give your body enough sleep; without enough sleep, your body will be unable to make itself as healthy as it (and you!) want it to be - and it will be unable to burn fat the way it should.

As you make an effort to rid yourself of those pesky "extra" pounds, make sure you are going about it the right way - not only doing the right things to lose weight, but doing the right things to lose weight while also being healthy about it - and the benefits you will receive in return will be well worth your efforts.

How to Choose a Health Drink

Mind is All
image

Do you like the idea of getting healthier just by choosing the right health drinks? Just because a beverage is labeled as a health drink doesn't mean it's the best drink for your situation. Use these guidelines to choose the best health drinks for you.

There are many varieties of health drinks on the market, each with different purposes. Are you replacing a meal? Are you drinking this to help you build muscle after a hard workout? Are you looking for a health drink that will help you hydrate because of excessive exercise or extreme weather? Or did you just want a drink? With every health drink, you'll want to check the label to be sure it's all natural and full of good stuff, but then you'll want to match these criteria with the following needs.

If you need a meal replacement, you'll need to consider calories first.

This is especially important if you are following a diet with restricted calories. Any good meal replacement health drink will be high in protein and somewhat low in sugar. It should also contain some fat, and if you're lucky, some fiber (although you can always add in some metamucil or eat a Benefiber tablet). Those are the three ingredients that satisfy your hunger and stick with you: protein, fat, and fiber.

If you've just finished a weight lifting routine, you'll need a recovery drink with lots of protein. Stock up on premade protein drinks or whip up your own in the blender with some protein powder and milk.

If you've just completed a triathlon or finished a half-day tennis camp in the blazing sun, your body is dying for water, sugar, and electrolytes.

If you're just looking for a thirst-quencher, look for a low-cal, all natural health drink. You don't want to drink too many calories.

Experiment with various health drinks until you find the ones that best meet your needs.

Keeping Yourself Healthy Every Day

Too many people go on crazy diets or start to work out a ton in order to 'get healthy,' trying everything they can to take care of it all at once. But when it comes to keeping yourself healthy, the best way is to make healthy living part of your every day, turning it into a habit. Follow these tips for healthy daily living, and you will find that your body and mind feel better than they've ever felt before!

Lots of people "function fine" on little sleep, and so, sleep becomes the area of healthy living that gets most often overlooked. But really, it does not matter if you function fine on little sleep; your body still requires eight hours every night, and few of us make sure we get this! In order for your body and mind to remain healthy in the long run, you need to make sure you begin to give them the proper amount of sleep each day.

Keeping a close eye on what you put into your body is, of course, another major part of making sure that your body remains healthy. When people think of the things they put into their body, they mostly think of food, but it is important to remember that liquids are part of this category as well. In addition to making sure you avoid sugar-filled, carbonated beverages as much as you can, you should also drink about a gallon of water each day.

And when it comes to keeping your body healthy every day, perhaps the most difficult part is getting regular and consistent exercise. Because exercise can be an inconvenience, too many people decide to skip it altogether, but it is a necessary inconvenience if you want to remain healthy. You do not need to undertake an aggressive workout routine, but you do need to make sure you get your blood pumping and muscles working. Your exercise routine can be as simple as taking a nice walk every day when you come home from work, or you can do something more involved like a trip to the gym.

In order for your mind and body to remain healthy, you need to follow these tips and keep up with them every day; in this way, it will be easy to accomplish what you want to accomplish!

Fitting Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule

Mind is All
You know you need to exercise more, but your busy schedule makes working out seem out of the question? Let go of the idea that you have to invest hours at the gym to stay fit, and try some of these tried and true tricks to stay toned.

Seize opportunities presented mid-day. Set yourself up such that you have to eat far from where you work. Force yourself to walk both ways, taking the stairs whenever possible and bringing coworkers or your laptop with you if you need to work over lunch.

Promise yourself ten minutes of exercise each day. Even if your day is completely packed, you can put in ten minutes of sit ups, push ups, and squats before bed.

Promise yourself you'll devote two mornings (or late nights) a week to exercise. Yes, you have to work a full day, but you can sacrifice sleep for exercise--which will energize you--two days a week. Take a cue from those who devote themselves to religious services and treat your two main workouts as sacred, scheduling them for times when no one can deter you from working out. Treat those mornings like special dates, making those the best workouts of the week.

Think of ways to make chores and errands more physically challenging. Make yourself walk as much as possible while running errands (park far away, make yourself walk fast) and turn the loading and unloading of bags into a workout by bending your knees, lifting them high, etc. Do something similar when performing chores. Use your whole body as you vacuum, push your arm muscles as your scrub, and do squats while folding laundry.

Relax by engaging in active hobbies. Instead of watching a movie, meet a friend for a walk. Instead of playing a board game, take your kids out for a hike. Exchange athletic hobbies for sedentary ones.

If you look for alternatives, you'll find it's possible to cram exercise into even the most overflowing schedule.

Five Healthy Habits You Want Your Kids to Live

image

Are you modeling healthy habits for your children? Use this checklist of five healthy habits as a starting point, and then branch off as you see necessary.

Model exercise so your child learns to be active. Unplug the TV, put away the video games, and get moving. Discover a sport or active game you and your child both think is fun, and then make a point of doing this together often. Some easy options are: play volley ball, shoot baskets, or go for a bike ride.

Model healthy eating habits. This will feel counter culture, since most Americans send their child lunches with Doritos and Oreos and think it's acceptable to buy chicken nuggets and fries for dinner. Serve healthy food at home and pack your child's lunch, sending fruit and vegetables instead of chips and Cheetohs. Have your child rate the healthfulness of meals so they start to understand what constitutes healthy and unhealthy.

Teach your child the value of sleep. Not getting enough sleep impacts us more than most people know, resulting in cranky, mentally dull, hungry people who can't function at full capacity. Explain how important sleep is, and put kids to bed about 20-30 minutes before they need to be asleep so they have time to decompress.

Teach methods of dealing with stress. Show them how to cool down before speaking (count to ten, write down thoughts, talk to a neutral party), how to apologize, and how to express needs and expectations calmly. Show your child how to relieve stress through a walk or meditation.

Discuss the importance of good friend choices. Talk through questionable friends, explaining to your child why this person might not be best for them. Help your child make good friends by inviting kids over, hosting activities, and making it easy for your child to spend time with good kids.

Parenting isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. If you take these five habits seriously, you'll set your child up to live healthfully.

Understanding The Proper Technique For Shaving

Mind is All
Many guys have a tendency to complain about what a nuisance shaving is, and how much havoc it wreaks on their skin, and even end up dealing with the annoyance of ingrown hairs – but one of the reasons so many people end up feeling that shaving is a nuisance is because they actually do not take the proper approach to shaving. Taking the right approach to shaving is not difficult at all, as soon as you know what you are doing; if you have been feeling that shaving is a real nuisance, it might just be a case of you lacking the proper education, and therefore taking the wrong approach.

For most guys, "shaving the right way" is no problem when they first start, but they eventually lose the patience to make sure they are going about it the right way, neglecting to acknowledge the fact that “going about it the right way” is an important part of protecting their skin; one of the first (and most important) aspects of “going about shaving the right way” is using hot water on the face – and even running hot water in the sink in order to create steam. Using hot water and steam in conjunction with shaving cream will be much better than using shaving cream alone; the hot water and steam will help to open up your pores, and this will then allow the shaving cream to condition your face and protect your skin.

And finally, a big part of shaving correctly is that you shave often; the more often you shave your face, the more your face will be used to it, and the shorter the hairs on your face will be (which also makes a difference); if you have not shaved in a while, make sure you shave “with” the hairs (instead of “against them”) at first, until you have shaved close enough for it to be comfortable shaving against the hair.

By following these tips, your shaving experience will be a lot less of a nuisance, and you will be able to shave each day without worrying about the way it will cause your face to feel!

How To Take Care Of Your Teeth

It is pretty easy to take care of your teeth - the most important things for you to do is to brush and floss a couple times each day - but many people still neglect to do these simple things, and it ends up costing them (in money and trouble!) in the long run! If you are being wise and taking care of your teeth the way you should, it is likely that you are always keeping an eye out for any new things you can do to make sure your teeth remain in great shape. Making sure you are eating foods that will be good for your teeth is one of the best ways to keep your teeth in great shape.

Not only are raw fruits and vegetables great for your body, but they are also great for your teeth for a number of reasons, as they help to remove plaque from your teeth, and they help to prevent the build-up of tartar.

Another thing that is good for you is foods that are rich in calcium; foods such as yogurt and cheese help to keep your teeth strong and healthy, and cheese even helps to rebuild your tooth enamel and neutralize acids that can cause tooth decay!

And of course, it is good to eat dark, green leafy veggies, and even though you might not especially love eating broccoli or spinach, these and other dark green leafy vegetables will help to prevent inflammation in your gums as they strengthen your gum tissue.

And one thing that will be important to realize is that you need to be aware of the fact that sugar is one of the biggest contributing factors to an unhealthy mouth, and if you eat sugar, you should make sure that you brush your teeth immediately!

By making sure you are keeping all these things in mind, it will actually be no problem for you to keep your teeth healthy through more ways than just brushing and flossing, ensuring that your teeth remain strong and healthy for a long time!

Tips For Replacing Ice Cream With A Healthier Option

Mind is All
Although most people enjoy having a nice little bowl of ice cream after their evening meal, they also know that ice cream is not exactly the healthiest of options. You can certainly keep ice cream as a once-in-a-while treat, especially if you are a true ice cream lover. But you should also find a way to cut it out of your routine on most nights, by knowing what some great ice cream alternatives are.

Most people who crave ice cream start to find (as they try to cut ice cream out of the routine) that what they really crave is something cold and either creamy or juicy. Of course, it is also nice if this "something cold and creamy/juicy" that you try to use as a replacement is also sweet! But if you want to start out trying to replace ice cream with the opposite extreme, you can try something such as watermelon or pineapple. Both of these fruits are cold and juicy, and they also have an element of sweetness; what's more, of course, is that they are very healthy!

Many people also find that yogurt is a satisfactory after-dinner replacement for ice cream on most nights. You will want to look for yogurt that is made organically and that is not full of sugar; otherwise, it would be just about the same to have a bowl of ice cream!

Popsicles are another treat that many people find to be an enjoyable replacement for ice cream, and you can even make healthy popsicles if you make them on your own! Take some ice cube trays and freeze your favorite juice - using toothpicks instead of popsicle sticks.

And finally, you can replace something cold and creamy with something that is hot and creamy, trying some after-dinner coffee instead of some after-dinner ice cream. If you are a coffee fan (and if it will not keep you up all throughout the night!), this can be a great way to go.

Even though you do not, of course, need to cut coffee out of your diet entirely, you should find some alternatives that work for you so that you do not end up eating ice cream every night!

Dealing With Bee Stings

It is certainly not fun to end up getting stung by a bee, as bee stings not only can cause you pain, but can also put poison in your blood stream that makes you feel sick (and of course, it is even worse for those who are allergic to bee stings!), but even though you will be hopeful that you (or your children) will not have to deal with bee stings, it is wise - especially during the summer - to know what you should do in case a bee sting occurs. It is fairly easy to take care of bee stings, after all, but if you do not know what you are doing, you will not be able to take the proper steps!

image

Before you do anything else, you will want to check to see if the stinger is stil lin the skin; if the stinger is not in the skin, you will be in much better shape, as this will mean there was little to no poison emitted, but if the stinger is embedded in the skin, you will need to use tweezers and pull it out.

Once you have safely removed and disposed of the stinger, you will need to mix a little concoction to go over the area of the sting; in a bowl, stir a little bit of water into baking soda until it creates a paste-like substance, then cover the area with this paste and allow it to dry.

This concoction of water and baking soda will minimize the effect of the sting and the poison, but you will also need to make sure that no air is getting to the spot of the sting, and that the paste is not crumbling off; you can do this by putting a bandage over the paste and leaving it on for several hours.

You should immediately visit a doctor if you have taken these steps and an allergic reaction still occurs - but as long as you take these steps, you will greatly minimize the possibility of any further damage!

Tips For Keeping Up Your Energy During A Long Hike

Mind is All
On top of being a great way to exercise, hiking is also a great way for you to get outside and enjoy nature (which, of course, has many additional health benefits, such as Vitamin D from the sun, and a boost to your immune system from increased relaxation and decreased stress), but if you do not know how to keep up your energy during a long hike, hiking can have adverse effects as well, as it can cause you to become fatigued, and can even cause you to become sick as you tire your body!

When you are taking a hike, you will want to make sure you are allowing yourself to take frequent breaks to rest (even when you do not necessarily feel tired); by taking these breaks - and by making sure you are snacking and drinking plenty of water when you take these breaks - you will be able to put your body in a position where it will keep up its energy, and where you are able to continue hiking for as long as you want.

It is also important that you know how to hike properly during the hike itself; many people think hiking is nothing more than walking, and because of this, they vary their pace too much or simply move too fast, and this causes their body to get tired before their brain has a chance to realize it; move at a steady pace when you are hiking, and try to maintain this pace throughout the duration of your trek.

And if you are hoping to keep from getting tired during a hike, making sure you have the right equipment - and that you are wearing this equipment properly - will be of the utmost importance; a good pair of hiking shoes (that fit snugly and are comfortable) is an important asset, and if you are wearing a pack when you hike, you will want to make sure the weight is distributed properly so that you do not wear out your body as you go along.

You will be ready to head out for a hike as you keep these tips in mind, and will be able to enjoy all the benefits that come from a day of hiking - without enduring any of the problems that can come as a result of conducting your hike incorrectly!
