Understanding The Benefits Of Playing

For most adulst, when they hear the word "playing," they think of children outside on a summer afternoon - but while "play" is generally reserved for children nowadays, there is no reason why adults cannot play as well, and when you realize all the benefits of playing (and understand some of the ways by which you, as an adult, can play yourself!), you will stop thinking of "play" as something that is only for children, and will instead start thinking of ways that you can play yourself.

Some of the best ways for an adult to "play" are also some of the best ways for an adult to stay in shape; a few examples of playing include swimming (either in the ocean or at a pool), going for walks (or better yet, going for hikes over varied terrain!), and putting together some sort of game with your friends - whether it is a pickup game of soccer or football, a game of softball, or a game of ultimate frisbee.

On top of working to get you outside and keeping your body in shape, playing will also help you to get sunlight; although sunlight in excess is not good for your skin, your body requires a measure of sunlight every day, as getting 20 to 30 minutes of sunlight on 70 to 80 per cent of your body will give it the vitamin D it needs.

And when it comes to playing, one of the best benefits - even if you do it in such a way that is not a workout, and even in such a way that you are not getting sunlight in the process - is that it helps you relax and helps to minimize your stress; because of the way in which stress impairs your immune system, keeping stress at bay is a great way to improve your health - and what better way to minimize your stress than by simply playing!

Next time you someone says the word "play," try to not think about children outside on a summer afternoon, but instead, think about yourself - and start thinking about the ways you can play yourself, in order to be able to enjoy all the benefits that come along with it!

Stay Fit With Indoor Rock Climbing

Mind is All
There are a lot of different ways to stay healthy and fit, but when it comes right down to it, a lot of these ways are really quite dull! After all, there is only so many times you can run on a treadmill or walk around your neighborhood without looking for something new. One of the great ways to stay in shape is by rock climbing, and with the emergence of indoor rock climbing facilities, it has never been safer or easier!

image

Rock climbing uses all of your upper body muscles and also causes you to use your legs a significant amount, making it one of the best full-body workouts. And although rock climbing can be dangerous when done outdoors - esepcially when done without a harness or any serious padding beneath you - it can be a very safe activity at indoor rock climbing gyms.

In order to climb at most indoor rock climbing gym, you need to take a "top rope" proficiency course, which will teach you how to belay (which means adding friction to the rope that your climbing partner is using, which keeps them from falling far if they slip off the wall) for your partner. The costs of indoor climbing are pretty minimal once you have the basics down, as most of these places allow you to climb whenever you want once you have paid a small monthly fee.

You will also want to invest in some good climbing shoes and a chalk pouch if you begin to climb regularly. On Amazon, you can find good climbing shoes for really reasonable prices, and you can easily find chalk pouches for as little as $10. As for climbing clothes, you can probably find everything you need right there in your closet, as you just need an old shirt and some sturdy pants or shorts.

Once you get the hang of rock climbing, it can be as easy or as challenging as you choose for it to be! And best of all, indoor rock climbing gives you a true full-body workout that is fun and adventurous without being dangerous at all!

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Daily Walk

If you are trying to keep your body active (which, of course, equates to keeping your body healthy!), one of the best ways is to take a walk on a daily basis - or, at the very least, to attempt to take a walk on a daily basis - but in addition to the basic health benefits of walking, there are a few things you can do to get even more out of this walk - for your body, your mind, and your overall wellbeing.

While walking along a flat sidewalk in a neighborhood or park is certainly good for your body, you will do even more for your body if you are able to find a place to walk where you will sometimes be going uphill, and will sometimes be going downhill; furthermore, a quicker pace and longer strides will do a lot to help this walk be the best workout it can be.

One reason a lot of people do not walk as often as they should is the fact that they feel walking tends to "take up too much time"; if you are not the sort of person who will enjoy simply walking and breathing in some fresh air, consider bringing an audiobook along, or even think about using this time to learn a new language or gather new knowledge through the things you listen to!

As for your overall wellbeing, realize that getting a bit of sunlight each day is a big part of having a healthy mind and body, so even though work obligations might prevent you from walking outside when the sun is up most days, make an effort to do this when you can; furthermore, realize that walking barefoot in grass is much better for you than walking on concrete with shoes - so when you can, indulge in this addition to your walk as well!

You will already be doing a whole lot for yourself by taking a daily walk - but when you add in these extras, you will make your walk even more beneficial!

Tips for Healthy Skin

Most women are concerned about the health of their skin. It is common to use different chemicals to moisturize, shrink pores, and peal. Which can be fine and good, however most women miss the tips that can really help to get their skin healthy. Following these tips can really give your skin an nice healthy glow.

First and foremost, drink more water. Keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best things you can do for it. Simply carrying a water bottle  with you is an easy way to do this. There is some arguement to how much water is good for you. A common number is eight glasses while others recommend taking your body weight divided by 2 and drinking that many ounces (for example 150 / 2 = 75 ounces). It doesn't matter which one you chose, the big thing is to drink more water. To keep your skin looking healthy on the outside you need to keep hydrated on the inside.

Another great tip for your skin is to wear a good 30 SPF sunscreen. Studies are showing the damange done by the sun to your skin along with the premature aging, is a reason to drop the want for a healthy tan. The key to dealing with this is to use a good sunscreen of spf 15 or greater. This also reduces your chances of melanoma, which can kill.

Eatting correctly is the third tip. More research is being done about this all of the time. The mainstream is starting to get introduced to this data in books like Feed Your Skin Starve Your Wrinkles . By eating foods high in natural oils such as nuts, and antioxidant rich foods such as fruits and vegetables you ultimately slow down the aging in your body and this clearly includes your skin.

So don’t toss out all of your skin care routine, but keep in mind that you need to start from the base to truly get healthy skin. None of these tips are hard to include into your routine.

Mind is All

Feeling sad? Having trouble finding the positive? The following suggestions are intended to help you boost your emotional health.

Find a form of exercise you like. Just twenty minutes of exercise each day will improve your mood since your body will start producing endorphins at that point. You'll want to try all kinds of exercise until you determine what you like to do enough to do it on a regular basis. You'll discover how exercise can tone you up and help you feel more optimistic over all.

Spend time with people who lift your mood. People need social connections with other people in order to feel fulfilled. Reach out to a coworker, a friend, a neighbor, or a family member and spend time doing something together. Examine your life, looking to see if work or parenting or something else has been dominating your life, and then make time to be with someone who will help you see the positives in life.

Give a chuckle. Believe it or not, laughing helps you feel better. Go to a funny musical, watch some humorous YouTube videos, or read the comics--anything that makes you chuckle. Research local laughter therapy centers. No kidding! Laughter therapy has helped many people get a better perspective.

Get some nutritional support in the form of D and B vitamins and Saint John's Wort. Supplements may give you just enough support to help you experience a mood shift. All of these vitamins enhance your emotional health. Check with your doctor before taking Saint John’s Wort if you have any allergies to plants or pollen.

Set up an appointment with a therapist. Sometimes we just need a safe space to spill it all, and a therapist can give you suggestions that will be tailored to your life situation. Your insurance will most likely cover several visits, and it often just takes a visit or two to get perspective and make a plan.

Make sure you take time to stay emotionally healthy. Your emotional health is linked to your physical health, which also affects your relationships with others. Take care of yourself!

Using The Sleep Cycle App

If you have an iPhone or an Android phone, you may have heard about the "Sleep Cycle" app, which is supposed to work by monitoring your sleep and making sure it wakes you up when you are at your lightest point of sleep - which will leave you feeling much more awake than you would if you were awoken from a deep sleep.

Of course, the first question is: Does the Sleep Cycle app work?

The answer to this question is simple: It absolutely works, as the way in which your body moves will differ depending on the sleep cycle you are in, and the app can know if you are in deep sleep or light sleep by monitoring your movements while you sleep.

The app costs only 99 cents, and if you ever feel more tired than you should after a full night of sleep, you should certainly consider using this app - after all, as long as you use it correctly, it might be exactly what you have been needing to feel much more awake.

You will have to use this app with your phone plugged in, as the screen cannot be shut off during the night in order for the app to work (which is an inconvenience, of course - but this inconvenience is minor when compared to the fact that you can wake up feeling more refreshed!).

You will set the alarm for a certain time, and the Sleep Cycle app will wake you up within a 30 minute window leading up to that time - making sure it waits to wake you up until it registers you as being in light sleep. Once you have set the alarm and plugged your phone in, you will need to simply set the phone face-down near your head, with the top of the phone facing you (you can slip it under a corner of your sheet if you want, to keep yourself from knocking the phone off during the night), and you will be all set to sleep!

In the morning, the Sleep Cycle app will wake you up when you are in your lightest state of sleep, and this will help you to start the day feeling rested and refreshed!
