Emotional Health Boosters That Work

Got the blues? Wishing you felt more optimistic? Try these mood boosters that will truly improve your emotional health.

Discover the power of exercise. If you simply commit to 20-30 minutes of exercise each day, your body will feel as if you've been given a mild antidepressant. You'll want to try all kinds of exercise until you determine what you like to do enough to do it on a regular basis. It’ll help you trim down, tone up, and feel better about yourself.

Spend time with other people. We are social creatures, and we need emotional attachments to others. Reach out to a coworker, a friend, a neighbor, or a family member and spend time doing something together. Examine your life, looking to see if work or parenting or something else has been dominating your life, and then make time to be with someone who will help you see the positives in life.

Laugh. Believe it or not, laughing helps you feel better. Go to a funny musical, watch some humorous YouTube videos, or read the comics--anything that makes you chuckle. Research local laughter therapy centers. No kidding! Laughter therapy has helped many people get a better perspective.

Get some nutritional support in the form of D and B vitamins and Saint John's Wort. Your body may need the supplemental boost. These supplements will provide emotional support. Check with your doctor before taking Saint John’s Wort if you have any allergies to plants or pollen.

Consider seeing a therapist. A therapist can provide a confidential place to talk about what is bothering you and find solutions. In most cases, your insurance will cover the visits, and you don't have to go forever just because you go once.

Insist on protecting your emotional health. How you are doing emotionally affects your body physically, and it affects the people around you as well. Be well!
