Guided Meditation

Mind is All

Have you wanted to start a guided meditation practice, but are not sure how to get started? Are you looking for a starting point? Guided meditation sessions can be a great way to begin this valuable practice since you will be able to learn from others as you go.

You can attend a guided meditation class or buy yourself a guided meditation CD to do at home. Some meditation programs are focused on a specific purpose, such as smoking cessation or losing weight, where as some are general meditation guides.

If you go to a guided meditation class, you’ll have the advantage of seeing how others practice. Your fellow classmates can teach you how to best sit comfortably, which can take some getting used to. You’ll also learn discipline because the group setting will make it less likely that you’ll give up partway through a session. You may learn a lot about your instructor and his or her practice, which can help you as you establish the foundation of your practice.

A good meditation CD will be between half hour and an hour long. You’ll be instructed to choose a quiet spot where you will not be interrupted. Once the CD gets going, close your eyes, settle into a position that will be comfortable but in which you can stay alert, and focus on the guide's voice.

Pay attention to your breath as you follow the breathing exercises, deepening your relaxation and meditation. Once you are sufficiently relaxed, the instructor will move on to imagery, depicting a serene environment for you to meditate upon. Follow the guide through thoughts regarding the issue you wish to change or the path of acceptance, whatever the instructor's message is. Near the end of the CD, the instructor will talk you back out of your meditative trance, leaving you will positive thoughts that will carry you through the day.

Guided meditation can provide many benefits, including stress relief and improvement of mental focus.
