Not sure what to do with your family this Spring Break? Are you worried your kids will do nothing but play video games all week long? The following inexpensive, creative Spring Break ideas will get your family up and moving.
Enjoy time in your home sweet home. Maybe you had to stay home, but you can still act like you’re out of town. Take some time off work (or perhaps one of you can take off two days, and the other three days) and have fun with your schedule, staying up super late and sleeping in. Go to your local YMCA and take a class (dance, yoga, kickboxing), shoot hoops in the gym, swim as a family, or use the weights together. Get silly and have a sleep-over party in the family room (parents, too), or hit the local tennis courts, or do some yardwork together. Play boards games or dig out the paints and play artist for a day.
Decide to be a tourist in your home town. Make a list of things you can do here at home that fit your budget, and have the kids vote on options. Some fun ideas include: go hiking, check out the local art scene, walk the mall, go to a new restaurant, or explore your downtown area.
Pool resources with another family. Is your child's best friend's family also looking for things to do? Take turns having sleepover at each other's houses. Set up a schedule so different adults take time with the kids to do fun activities. Combine heads to think up activities all the kids like to do and how to split up time and resources.
Get the kids cooking. Give the kids healthy recipes to follow, and then spend time with them, teaching them cooking skills and explaining why your family makes the food choices they do. Talk through how to care for your body by eating healthfully and exercising regularly.
Spring Break doesn’t have to be expensive to be fun and healthy. Invest time in your kids, making memories.
