Do you Suffer From Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

There is nothing worse then having your livelyhood put at risk because of a repetitive stress syndrome such as carpal tunnel. Unfortunately many people who work a lot with their hands are at risk for this syndrome. Computer programmers, receptionists, hair stylists are just a few of the people who often begin to have problems with this syndrome.

Do you have pain in your forearms, hands and wrists?  If so then you may have carpal tunnel. People that suffer from this syndrome frequently complain of numbness in their fingers also. Doctors commonly prescribe painkillers and recommend braces to wear. Sometimes doctors ultimately end up recommending surgery if the symptoms are bad enough. There are things that you can do to really reduce your chances of having to suffer surgery.

What can you do to reduce your chances of carpal tunnel syndrome? Your first line of defence needs to be your body position and posture. Making sure that your wrist is in a neutral position at all times is a great way to start. Wrist neutral means that your wrist is centered and not bent or kinked to far in any direction. Braces can help to keep your wrist in a neutral location while your wrist has some time to heal. Take a look at the way a piano player plays, their wrists are typically pretty flat when viewed from the side. Their wrists are not bent at severe angles at all.

Your chances of suffering from the syndrome are even further reduced if you learn to stretch out and do self massage. A combination of massage therapy, stretching, and correct body positioning can really put you on the path to avoiding pain. Doing these things at least once a day if not more often then that really doesn't take that much time and will save your body in the end. Be proactive if you are in an at risk profession.
