Sensitive Teeth Causing You Problems?
Sensitive teeth can be a very painful problem for those who suffer with it. If your teeth are painful, you should see a dentist to determine why you are suffering. There are a wide range of reasons that you may be having tooth sensitivity. One reason is that your genetics may have caused you to have weaker enamel. Sensitive teeth an also be caused by gum recession. When your gums recede it exposes the soft dentin of the root on your tooth. Ouch! Another cause of sensitivitiy has to do with the enamal wearing down over time with age. Toothpastes such as Sensodyne, and Pronamel Sensitive are two toothpastes that can help with sensitive teeth. Your teeth have naturally occurring tubes in them that can be plugged by these special pastes. This cuts down on pain. For these toothpastes to work they need to be the soul toothpaste used. Whitening toothpastes and hydrogen peroxide whitening can increase tooth sensitivity so please avoid these. When choosing a toothbrush make sure to choose a soft or ultra soft bristle toothbrush. Medium and hard bristle brushes are much more likely to wear down the gums exposing sensitive dentin of the roots. This dentin is softer then the hard enamel on the tops of our teeth. Sensitivity can be caused by brushing the dentin too hard and ultimately begin to wear the dentin down. The likelyhood of tooth sensitivity can be reduced simply from brushing your teeth correctly. Aim to brush your teeth with and bristles at a 45-degree angle to the teeth and gums. You should be brushing in small circles verses back and forth. This reduces wear on any exposed dentin. Electric toothbrushes can do this motion for you if you decide this is more up your alley. Avoid mouthwashes that have high alcohol content in them. Mouthwash that is high in alcohol can dry out your gums and further lead to problems. Flossing is very important to the health of your teeth and gums. When it comes to flossing, just do it. It doesn't matter if you used waxed or unwaxed floss. It is very important to keep our teeth healthy and tooth sensitivity should be looked at seriously by a dental care professional. Although a toothpaste change may help, you should still get checked out to make sure you don't have a larger problem beginning.
