Do I Have Insomnia?
Mind is AllWhile cinema and even literature have over-dramatized the idea of insomnia over the years, many people just plain want to know: Do I have insomnia myself? Many people think that insomnia is a sort of terrible sickness or disease, deriving these thoughts from the heavy-handed influence of art. Actually, insomnia is merely a symptom, or a sign, of disease, and is not a sickness or disease itself. Insomnia, put as plainly as possible, is when someone has difficulty falling asleep or remaining asleep. Of course, insomnia can vary greatly in severity, ranging from being a minor nuisance to preventing sleep altogether; this is important to keep in mind when deciding whether or not you would like to seek medical attention. For instance, it might not be worth the time and effort of seeking medical treatment if you toss and turn a bit before falling asleep, but then sleep soundly throughout the rest of the night without any troubles. It might be something as simple as stress or uptightness that is causing this delay of sleep, or "light insomnia." Once you solve the stress itself, you will find that the insomnia goes away. On the other hand, if you are dealing with a situation where you are extremely tired and sleep-deprived and are still unable to fall asleep or sleep through the night, you might be dealing with a more severe case of insomnia. If you have a severe case of insomnia - finding that you are unable to fall asleep, or are unable to get good sleep, no matter how tired you are - consider seeking medical assistance. The body's mind and muscles are the areas most likely to be in disarray when insomnia is a present symptom. Another common cause of insomnia is medication. If you have insomnia, it can be kept at bay with any number of prescribed drugs; or, you can remove the insomnia entirely by curing the disorder that is causing the insomnia. If you are suffering from a severe case of insomnia, visit a medical doctor - they can help you find out the disease causing this insomnia, and in this way they can help you solve the problem.
