Ten Spring Activities To Get Your Kids Active

image

Do you why so many American children are overweight? American kids are spending way too much time snacking and playing or watching electronics. It's time we got our kids outside, where they can think, create, and explore, using both bodies and minds. The following list of ten activities will give you a point of reference as you come up with ways to get your child active.

Register your kid for an organized sport. Try tennis. Put up a volleyball net in your yard. Sign up for a race with your child and start running together. Just find something that makes your child move.

Organize a neighborhood scavenger hunt. Work with neighbor parents to determine what should be on the list, and send the kids from house to house searching for everything on the list.

Set your child up to walk a dog. If you don’t have your own pet that needs walking, volunteer your child to walk the neighbor’s dog for exercise.

Organize a neighborhood hide and seek game. If your kids are older, set up a flashlight tag game for after dark.

Set up family games outside, like badminton. Once you've got the gaem set up outside, call up your friends and family and have them over to play.

Set up a jump rope competition. Buy a couple different types of jump ropes so you can have chinese jump ropes, long jump ropes, and individual jump ropes. Give out inexpensive prizes, like bubbles or silly string.

Find summer camps that will keep your child active. Many community programs are dirt cheap and lots of fun.

Hand over the mowing responsibility. Any ten-year-old can probably handle at least half the lawn per day.

Show the kids how to play Twister. See who is the most flexible of the bunch.

Take your child for a hike or after-dinner stroll. Or hop on bikes together. Or to shoot baskets with you. If you join your kids, they'll enjoy exercise more. Be a great example for your child and watch them follow in your footsteps!
