Preventing Concussions During Athletics the Easy Way
One of the biggest issues in sports today are concussions. Almost every sport that is played has issues with concussions. The highest risk of this injury involves athletes from high speed contact sports, like football and hockey. The constant high speed contact that occurs means that body parts are absorbing tremendous amounts of force. Traditionally low contact sports are experiencing serious concussions as well. In baseball a concussion was suffered by Justin Morneau when he slid into a players knee at second base during a game. A concussion is a very serious injury. It results from the brain being rattled around inside of someone’s skull. This can then cause a loss of consciousness when the injury initially occurs. After the initial injury occurs the symptoms can become even more serious. Many that have had a concussion say that they feel as though they are stuck in a fog. They cannot drive and are forced to spend most of their days relatively sedentary. For such a large dilemma there is very little known about concussions. A tried and true way of lowering the risk of a concussion is by using a mouth guard during athletic activity. A gel strapless mouth guard that is designed to absorb a majority of impact was designed by the company Shock Doctor. This can be the difference between suffering a concussion and emerging from an impact relatively unscathed. A breathing channel is also included in the mouth guard to help you breathe normally while playing. It is very dangerous to play sports without using any type of mouth guard. In order to make sure that you do not suffer from a concussion or many other injuries to the teeth they need to be used. Shock Doctor has used the extensive research available to craft a mouth guard that is very efficient at reducing concussions. If you want to match the uniform you are wearing they are even available in many colors.
